What is BB cream?

Hi!

So, the first makeup product that I'll be reviewing is on BB (Blemish Balm) cream. It's apparently very popular in Korea and some Asian countries, to the extent that there are now many different Korean brands producing their own bb products.

I was first introduced to bb cream via Makeupforlife - It's the last post, 2.12.07. Which then lead me to the forum Cozycot, where a female named Miao began a thread for BB creams and actually posted up photos of herself before and after using bb creams. The before and after were absolutely remarkable! - a must see!!

Soooo.. that's how i pretty much became interested in bb creams.

*Continue to read if you don't know what bb cream is... Otherwise, I suggest you just skip this section =)*

Ok, so what is BB cream? The best place to find out what it is, is via that forum that I've mentioned above (*warning* it's a long thread...). But briefly...

BB CREAM =
  • Slightly similar to a tinted moisturiser/foundation
  • Can be used as a makeup base or just on its own
  • Provides slight coverage - from evening out skin tone, covering scars, panda eyes, etc.
  • Has healing properties - helps to improve your skin tone and softens, decrease pimples, lighten scars and whitening properties
So it shouldn't be used as a substitute to moisturizer in your skin care routine and thus, thorough cleansing is required before bedtime. And generally, it takes at least a month, till any visible changes are evident.

As I previously mentioned above, there are many brands selling their own bb creams. Apparently, the best ones (and hence, more expensive ones) currently available include:
BRTC (Bio Remedies Therapeutic Cosmetics), Dr. Jart and Hanskin.

Cheaper brands, include Skin Food, the Faceshop and Missha.
In my area, we only have the Faceshop and Missha outlet. I've heard tho... that the Faceshop bb cream isn't very good.... so I guess, I'll most likely eventually get the Missha one and try that out... maybe..?

Anyway, I ended up buying BRTC Perfect Recover Balm.

BRTC can only be purchased online in Korea and comes in just one colour, a pinkish undertone. There are three types:
  • BRTC Perfect Blemish Balm (Not being sold anymore) - For oily/acne prone skin
  • BRTC Perfect Recover Balm - For problematic and sensitive skin
  • BRTC Whitening & wrinkle Repair - As the name describes, contains firming and whitening properties

DESCRIPTION ON PACKAGING:
"This blemish feature block protects the trouble skin from the harmful environment. Including natural phyto ingredients, it helps to soothe the blemish and diminish the skin's imperfection. It helps to turn to the normal facial tone and grants brightening to the skin." - Not very good English, but understandable enough.
